Quality in ICT (Information and Communications Technology) is currently a mainstream concern, shared by all organizations that sell products and provide services in that area, and to their users. Standardization and certification are key elements in the Quality process, to define the methods, techniques and characteristics of products and services, and their evidence in an increasingly demanding market.
QUATIC'94, held in Lisbon on May 27th 1994, was the first meeting In Portugal in this area. It provided a forum for discussion and exchange of experiences among 130 participants, including producers, users, consumers, researchers, public and private institutions, and other stakeholders, contributing to an effective awareness of the problems and solutions in the scope of ICT Quality.
QUATIC is promoted by the CS/03 – IT Sectorial Commission of the National Council for Quality of the Ministry of Industry and Energy – and this event had the logistical support of the Portuguese Association for Quality (APQ).
The opening session had a presentation given by a spokesman of the Ministry of Industry and Energy, followed by a keynote by the President of the ECITC (European Committee for Information technology Testing and Certification). The program included a set of interesting presentations and panels, arranged in two parallel tracks, one dedicated to the software area and another to the area of telecommunications. Overall, the program included 4 guest speakers, 8 communications, and 3 panels. The event was sponsored by the Instituto de Informática (Ministry of Finance), INESC, IPQ, CPRM, IBM Portugal, Portugal ICL, ICP, Portugal Telecom and AIP.
The success generated around this event was such, that is already underway the preparation of a next edition, in larger format (3 days), to be also held in Lisbon.
